89 Detailed Entries to Flying Machine Bicycle Design Challenge!
GrabCAD challenge enables Bicycle Design Studio Flying Machine to quickly attract 89 submissions from our brilliant engineers! 1st place winner Mark Lebeau took home a brand new Base Urban bicycle!
The 20-day challenge was to improve the finishing details to hold handle bar tape in place on the handlebars of their bikes. Bicycles were traditionally designed in-house at their studio in Australia, but Flying Machine decided to try a GrabCAD challenge. Here are the results:
1st PLACE: Mark Lebeau took home a brand new Base Urban bicycle for his design Expanding Web
From Flying Machine judges “Beautiful concept. Least parts of all entries, developed from earlier high quality entry this is a real step forward. We are looking forward to taking this into production.”
2nd PLACE: Brett took home a GrabCAD motivation package for his design End Grip and Cable Access Clip
From Flying Machine judges “This is a very close second and is the best solution to the overall challenge of improving both the end plug and the tape finishing ring. Great solution for the finishing ring particularly, we will definitely be using this part of the design when we start moving this into production.”
3rd PLACE: Rory took home a GrabCAD motivation package for his design RC End Cap Concept 2
From Flying Machine judges “Very nice design and graphics, ability to use the same components for both ends as well as for both size bars is a real plus. The clasp piece being separate would allow for painting/ colouring flexibility.”
4th PLACE: Hevi took home a GrabCAD motivation package for his design Bike Handlebar Special Collet v4
From Flying Machine judges “Amazing amount of work put into this one. Final version very well resolved. Minimal parts easy to produce.. And it already has a working prototype.”
5th PLACE: Mickey Gole took home a GrabCAD motivation package for his design EASYSTYLE Handlebar Plug & Clamp
6th PLACE: Bettak took home a GrabCAD motivation package for his design Bicycle Handlebar ASSY
