Embed! Embed! Embed! Embed (and measure) your models, in 3D, anywhere on the web.

Simply embed your models on any website or any blog and everybody can interact with your project in its full 3D glory. This is the coolest way to get people looking at and admiring your hard work.

Play with these sunglasses modeled and uploaded by GrabCAD engineer Brandon Woestman right here! Note that you must be using a webGL enabled browser to use this awesome new feature.

After you’re done playing with these neat sunglasses, make sure your models have great STL formats uploaded and embed your own models all over the web.

How? It’s simple.

When your model is open in the 3D viewer (upload a small STL format to GrabCAD for fast and easy loading), click on the “Embed” button and an embed code will pop up.

Copy and paste that into anywhere that reads HTML, and you’re good to go. Feel free to edit the height and width to make the viewer look awesome on your page. Then post it. All internet users (who have WebGL enabled) will be able to interact with your model in 3D.

We’ve also introduced ‘measure’ functionality right into the 3D viewer, so you can get a feel for the relative length between two points on any surfaces of your model. There aren’t units in the measure tool yet (because the STL file format doesn’t carry that information), but we’re already brainstorming ways to introduce units and more complex measuring functionality into our next 3D viewer.

More to come. We’re dedicated to making your 3D life easier and more fun. Sprinkling your CAD models in 3D all around the web is a step in the right direction.

Who built this?

Well, it was a team effort. But Priit wrote the code that allows you to embed your models everywhere. Thank him by sending him a private message if you like the embed feature (or if you have any feedback!)

On my computer, dragging the model causes it to gyrate uncontrollably. Also, the views don’t appear to work.

Great tool!!!

I’m working with Win7 64bit + Google Chrome and I had to do nothing to enable WebGL (although, Google does flag out some OS+Graphics Card combinations).

All features worked great for me.
I wonder I zooming is limited to always show all model triangles.

Down the road of an open-community collaborative PDM system.
Great insight!!

Keep up with the hard work.

Ken, can you email me some more details? I’d like to know some details about your browser, computer/operating system as well as a few other things so we can pinpoint the problem. gabe@grabcad.com

Now with the new 3D viewer the embed button has been removed. Is there any other way to embed our models on any other website? Or we can’t use the embed option anymore?

The product team plans to get embed back into the viewer. The timing depends on demand, so I’ll let them know that you’re asking!
