Challenge Results: Power Socket Redesign and GrabCAD favorites
Spark your creativity (pun intended) with the most recent Challenge winners from the Power Socket Redesign Challenge! GrabCADrs went above and beyond with new ideas on design, structure, and function. You can also see the GrabCAD Community’s immense rendering and animation skills in the Great Rendering and Animate Your Models Challenges. Don’t miss these winners.
GrabCAD Great Rendering Winner
The winning set of renderings by thinkin3D showed-off an incredibly complex machine, that was beautifully rendered. The sheer number of parts makes it a great example of the “hardcore” engineering products created every day that require careful collaboration. The photorealistic rendering shows off the inside complexity and inner workings very well. The wireframe doesn’t miss a single detail but still manages to be clear and simple for the viewer. Again, the non-photorealistic rendering adds textures that really shows off the detail. The use of neutral colors throughout make for an interesting opportunity for our designer, Mikk, to combine them all for something really cool!
In second place, Verislav presented really nice renderings and wireframe of a device with moving parts and a nice exterior. We just loved that he exploded the CAD model for this series! This rendering does an excellent job of showing the “hardcore” inner workings. As a complete set of renderings, this really impressed all of us. In third place, Nikola’s simple and elegant model illustrates an important general mechanism. All engineers are suckers for gears and we’re no different. Love the rendering. It would be cool to see this mechanism come to life with an animation!
Commel Socket Design Winner
This winner has it all. It’s creative, inexpensive to produce, and maintains the internal structure of the original design. On top of covering all of the main categories for this Challenge, we loved this entry’s inspired curves and beauty. It is so simple but would attract many consumers to the shelf to buy! Wonderful (bonus) addition of safety covers in our second place winner! This design isn’t too safe though. The sleek black look takes this socket to a new level. We would be proud to own this in our office or home. People would be grabbing our third place winner off the shelves! Great and creative use of color. This socket would add fun style to any room it’s in and gives the bonus function of color coding your outlets. Inventive take that gives added punch to the traditional single line socket.
GrabCAD Animate Your Models Winner
We had so much fun with this Challenge that we popped some popcorn and had a viewing party featuring all entries in the GrabCAD headquarters! There were many oooohs and aaaahs from the team. The winning video included the best use of models. We thought that it’s understated animation would be perfect for promoting Workbench. It was very polished and professional-looking. The fact that it was all about the logo means that it is neutral enough to play before or after any kind of video. It was also a crowd favorite amongst the team. Love this entry, Vladimir!
In second place, was this mechanical, creepy crawler. It showed both how fun and vibrant the Community is, while still being able to really show off the GrabCAD brand. It used a group of standard parts, which is a big benefit available on GC but puts the focus on the main assembly, just like we do. Our Community is what moves us forward, so we like that this guy literally pulls us along to get the job done. Amazing animation, Oskar! Our third place winner was really fun! Of course, we love that this mentions that GrabCAD is powered by engineers. Engineers are at the core of what we do and are why we come to work each day. It was inventive to show parts colliding to make a really dynamic animation and that the rocket loses some parts during launch. Nice work, Prithviraj!
