Winners Announced for the 500 Group Supercar Dashboard Design Challenge

Yet again, we had an awesome Design Challenge for the GrabCAD Community to design and deliver their best work! This time the 500 Group needed everyone to develop a new dash for their Supercar, seen here on rocking the Nürburgring and destroying the competition. Now that the Challenge is over, we have a winner to announce and 500 Group's drivers will now have a neat way to know by how much they are ripping around corners!

Clean and Cool Dash for Supercar by yerraaditya

This submission best understood the criteria overall and created an excellent animation. The feeling of layers is completely believable and the overall visual is cleanly presented. The animation tells the story that an RPM needle is not needed and demonstrates how the changing color bar and shift lights can work. Well done!

Update: 500 Group Supercar is Beating the Competition on the Track

Last May, a R&D consortium called the 500 Group ran a design challenge to create the perfect body for the perfect supercar. Made completely from GM high performance parts, the 500 Group wanted to encase the entire engineering with not one, but two potential types: Street and Track. And to design these types, they turned to us. Crowdsourcing design work like had never been done before - but surprise, surprise - the GrabCAD Community produced some of the best work anyone has ever seen!

500 Group’s Supercar body challenge winners are announced!

500 Group's Supercar body challenge is officially over! Results have been tallied and $3500 will be handed over to the winners today.

In one of our most exciting challenges yet, around 200 unique concepts for the body of a predetermined chassis from 500 Group were submitted (check out an unlisted sneak peak video of the naked chassis racing around a track... it needs a body!). To determine the winners, approximately the top 25% of designs were selected for screening based on community “likes". From here, each entry was carefully reviewed in terms of challenge requirements. The top 3 submissions from each of the 2 categories (street and track) were then listed from 1st to 3rd place in their original “like” order. Because the challenge yielded an extraordinarily high volume of quality entries we have additionally called out a number of engineers below for an honorable mention. Again, congratulations to all engineers and designers who participated!

500 Group will contact several engineers from the challenge to work together to bring one (or more) of these concepts into reality. Selected engineers will then have the opportunity to help with future 500 Group projects. Without further ado, we are proud to announce...

1st place Darren McKeage

Comment (from 500 Group): This entry has the complete package, a dynamic mature shape that is not too extreme, great physical balance, deep signature side vents and a great adherence to working with the supplied chassis, including the front and rear boxes. Darren finished his submission by selling it well with phenomenal action renders.

Supercar Body CAD Design Challenge officially over with 193 stunning submissions in 40 days!

500 Group's Supercar Body Design Challenge ended last night. Almost 200 designs were uploaded during this insanely popular 40 day challenge!

GrabCAD is pleased to announce 500 Group's extremely popular supercar body design challenge ended last night with 193 stunning entries from engineers all over the world. The GrabCAD community now has until April 23rd to determine the winning model, which is based solely on the number of "likes" each entry receives. Although we want to show off some of the truly wonderful submissions here, the renderings and pictures below link to the general entry pages, and not to the individual submissions. Please take time to look through all the submissions and "like" only the best ones. This is the power of GrabCAD.

Enjoy rendering?

GrabCAD is making the deal a little sweeter for anyone with rendering skills. In addition to the challenge as it stands, the 3 neatest and most professional renderings that use the GrabCAD logo on any car (in the challenge) will be awarded $50 each. Renderings will be judged solely by Mikk, our graphic designer. Mikk will take a look on April 23rd. The GrabCAD logo can be found here.

The Supercar Body Feedback Challenge is live until April 23rd. Authors of the top twelve feedback comments (which are honest, constructive and helpful) will receive $50 each. All the participants in this challenge need to write maximum of 50 words feedback to not less than 75% of all the entries in Supercar Body Challenge.

As a reminder, asking for "likes" through private messages is not an acceptable practice. The means by which winners are chosen ("like" count) is meant to harness the true potential of GrabCAD- engineers giving feedback and honestly assessing others' 3D design work.

We, at GrabCAD, are simply amazed at both the creativity and the attention to detail displayed by engineers and designers in the challenge! We are proud of the submissions to this challenge and anticipate organizing many more intriguing challenges for our engineers to display their amazing talent soon.

Good luck to all challenge participants! We're excited to see some more neat renderings uploaded and honest, constructive feedback given as the GrabCAD community browses through the submissions.

More entries for “Track” design wanted in Supercar Body Challenge

The supercar challenge for the 500 Group hosted on GrabCAD is proceeding well with over 70 entries already. With 11 days left, we expect to see many more models and designs uploaded for consideration in the $3500 prize purse!

There are 2 separate body challenges-- "street" vs. "track". Engineers are encouraged to submit entries in both categories and can win both separate challenges. The Street challenge is to design balance and an integrated appearance along with a signature element. Street cars are a reflection of their owners. Customers must imagine themselves driving the car. The Track challenge provides an opportunity to create a body sculpted by airflow and the track. Be bold, but realize that submissions must remain street legal and practical.
