I'm a road cycling enthusiast and as every other biker out there I'm constantly fighting the desire to get one more bike, to upgrade this bit or that part, get a lighter wheelset, uniquely shaped handlebar, on and on the list goes. At one point one is not satisfied with what's available in the local store or on the internet any longer and they start designing their own stuff to get things just right. Perhaps it's a one-off time trial "rocket" or unique city cruiser bike for the girlfriend.
I don't pretend to be Leonardo da Vinci but I can sketch well enough that it could be turned into a CAD model that I could take to a manufacturer. The problem is that I might not know any CAD engineers and the professional companies simply charge too much as this is a hobby project coming out of my own pocket.
Here's where GrabCAD helps - we're setting up CAD services that brings together clients (like me) and CAD engineers with some extra time on their hands. I have a job, GrabCAD has the engineers and quality control. Problem solved! Few days later I'm a happy owner of the drawings I can now take to a local manufacturer. What remains is convincing my girlfriend that I really do need that extra bit for my bike :)
What is the point of this story? We've just put out a call for CAD engineers to join the beta program for CAD services. If you're interested in some extra income (and not so interested in spending time on selling your services) then go sign up and we'll be in touch shortly.
And yes, that's a bike seat post clamp on the drawing here :)
