It’s been a while since our last hobby series post (about the amazing motorcycle design) and to fix this, we are going to delight you with some more two wheelies. Bicycles have come a long way since the early 1800′s, however, this doesn’t mean we still can’t have some fun redesigning the wheels every now and then.
To start it off we simply have to share the news about Seoul Cycle Design Competition 2010 that ended only a few days ago and received entries from more than 3000 designers all over the world. It is pretty amazing how there still can be thousands of interpretations of such a simple thing as bicycle, none of them boring, most of them quite spectacular. The winner this time around - bike 2.0 by Nils Sveje & co from Italy looks especially sleek, hands down.
We also like the futuristic ufold by André Costa from Portugal, the crazy Carrier Bike by the Korean Shin Hyung Sub Shin (how convenient a quick grocery shopping would be with that piece of functional brilliance!) and the eco-friendly Cyomo with solar panels by Raymond Bessemer from the US.
The organizer, Designboom has tons of more images available, not only bicycles, but entries for any accessories and gadgets as well. Take a look here.
Cycling is in, so are these kinds of design events. Tallinn also joined the club and had its own student competition to design cool bicycle racks, best of which will end up in production and use on the streets. We are currently doing everything we can to have all the example drawings in our Library, too.
You probably know it already but quite a few of the GrabCAD team over here have fancy road bikes dreams - if not every night then every week at least. This is the main reason we've got different bicycle parts in the Library. And why a tiny contribution to the design feast was made by Indrek whose weekend hobby project got shortlisted for Estonia's annual design award Bruno. We think this rocks and gives you all a nice opportunity to bombard him with all sorts of bicycle design related questions :)
To finish it all off, lets keep the tradition going and share another cool video with you. This time, surprise surprise, it's a cycling themed track from Mark Ronson, perfect for tuning in the weekend!
