The winners of GrabCAD's first ever 3D printing Challenge are chosen. We looked through almost half a thousand drawings, were torn between very technical looking models and some original artwork, considered some hobby projects, yet could not overlook all the professional drawings uploaded in the Library. We read your comments, too and came to the following decision this time.
The first drawing we are going to test-print is Scott Bruins' Mechanum Wheel.
You all loved it. It looks completely cool, has a very original shape that could be a nice challenge for the different printers and we simply cannot wait to see this one in 3D. Congratulations, Scott!
The next drawing waiting to be test-printed is John Evans' Vao Turbocharger Nozzle.
This one was a very last moment entry. When we started looking through the models on Friday evening and were hoping to find one with some very fine detail, John's latest upload was the perfect answer to the quest. This model will surely bring out the best (or worst) of the different printers and it will be very exciting to see which service providers can handle all the tiny details. Well done, John!
And the third one of the selected bunch is, of course, Chanson's Grabcad.
It's fun, it's original, and as all engineers are a little bit vain, we thought to select one drawing just for aesthetic purposes. It would be nice to have the grabbing hand on your desk, wouldn't it :) Besides, it looks so polished and smooth that we'll have quite a challenge ourselves to choose the printers with most suitable materials to print this one out. Chanson, thanks a lot for this!
What happens next?
We'll get in touch with the authors of the selected drawings personally as well. And then pick three 3D printing service providers for each model to continue with the challenge. We've got the categories listed that we want to test and see the results for each printer, and update you all once the first models are in.
And as we promised, the winners will get the best copy of the 3D model in their mailbox!
All who voted, shared their opinions and uploaded the models - a big cheer to you!
