A few months ago we added something called Requests to GrabCAD website. The aim was to give our users a simple forum to ask each other for help with specific models. Since then there's been a little bit of confusion around the price, how it works etc and I thought I'd clarify.
Requests is free for all registered users. You don't have to pay to post your request, nor do you have to offer payment to those who might help you out. It's 100% user driven and user supported forum.
In other words - depending on what you ask for, how much detail you put into your request and who happens to read your request you might get a solution in couple of hours or it might never happen. Friendly tone and being responsive to other's questions and comments has proven to be the winning formula.
What if you really need the CAD model fast and are willing to pay a little?
The only guaranteed way is to post it to our CAD services order form. That way we'll deal with it as any other order, match your order to the best engineer with the required skills and return the results within 48 hours.
We've certainly seen some interesting requests in the past - human models, rubber ducks, golf balls, HTC Nexus One cell phone, a barn, housing of a wall-mounted control pad, and so and, and so on.
Requests can be a great way to ask our community for help if you're stuck with your designs. Remember to give back and help others too :)
