We have a cool competition going on - Awesome Sauce for absolutely any crazy idea you can come up with. The challenge is to sketch something surprising, something that would be an unusual take on things we daily use or simply shows off the imagination flowing freely.
To get you all on the mood for those last two weeks remaining until the deadline on Sept 23, we've found some pretty brilliant examples of outside-the-box engineering thinking.
Traditional rollerskates look absolutely last century on the road compared to these little wheels. Or do they seem more like a tourist photo object? Fun looking, but probably not the best gadgets to use with all the skate park ramp designs we had a challenge for recently.
Or take this Knock Clock - this may look and sound like people have had too much free time, yet is a great brainpicking project for even the smarter guys.
Anything related to wheels is always cool, however, the mint green and retro design aside, the handlebar solution created for Cannondale bike already a while ago is something that looks highly marketable.
My favourite, the Messenger Dog vest, seems a ridiculously silly idea at first, but then again how many earthquakes, tsunamis, volcano eruptions have taken place during the past year when rescue dogs could have delivered much more information than just traces to human beings?
Or to have some outdoor fun, inventing a new way to set up a barbecue, hammock, inflatable pool might be a good idea. Or maybe a tent using only one trekking pole?
So, get your ideas out of your brain/hands and join the inventors - with the Awesome Sauce challenge you even have a good chance to win prizes.
