Hurray and champagne all around - we launched a significant update to our CAD model upload form last night :)
The big news is support for multiple file formats in case you have the native CAD file but also a neutral STEP/IGES file, for example.
In the model view others will see that your model has several files associated with this model and can choose which software/format version they want to download.
As some of the CAD files are rather large (we have quite a few that are over 100 MB size) then upload starts right after you select the file. This means that you can edit the title, description, tags etc and by the time you’re done the file upload has likely already finished.
Uploading screenshots and picking the default image is also faster and easier to use.
Other things we’ve improved this week:
- Two new categories added: Interior design, Medical devices
- New software options: STEP / IGES, STL for 3D print
- New skill you can add to your profile: Rendering
- Sort engineers by their skills, expertise or country (check out our US gang)
As always, if you have thoughts on what to improve then we’re all ears. You can send me feedback on firstname.lastname@example.org
