Often the stars can align to make good things happen. In the same way, whole groups of people can get together to do such things. Well-known blog Engineer vs. Designer (Mr. Mings and I write there), Develop3d, Ponoko, Lenovo and Spaceclaim have all chipped in to challenge the GrabCAD Community to come up with a Lasercut toy. JE Paz, Dick Lowe, Kir Ari ... we're looking at you specifically.
The Challenge is very simple - design an interesting toy that can be lasercut in wood or acrylic. Take a look at Ponoko's list of rules and tips to get a good grasp of what is possible and impossible to do. Ask all of those aforementioned GrabCAD Engineers about how they design for lasercutters. Heck, there's a few tutorials on creating DWGs from Solidwork models.
Deadline is November 12th. The prizes? Take a look at the Challenge page.
