The beginning of 2011 has been great for GrabCAD and there have been some important changes that I wanted to share with you.
Firstly, we want to welcome two new partners to GrabCAD - Seedcamp and TechStars. In January we annonced that we won Seedcamp London and just last week that we where chosen to TechStars Boston.
Seedcamp is the most prestigious startup accelerator in Europe and it has helped us tremendously with connections back in the Europe and in the US, and also with setting up strategic partnerships. At the same time TechStars brings us the best mentors from Boston area and certainly helps us winning over the US engineering and manufacturing market.
Myself, Indrek (our CTO) and Siim (our product lead) will spend the next 3 months working very closely with different experts in marketing, product development, everything related to CAD, engineering etc, to build our vision of building a global marketplace.
We are already making history by becoming the first company ever to participate in both Seedcamp and TechStars. That’s got to be a good sign.
Why Boston? Not simply because TechStars has its offices here, it’s got a lot more to do with us believing that the engineering exosystem here in Cambridge is the best in the world. There are so many amazing mechanical engineers and customers to get feedback from, so many other companies in related fields to learn from.

GrabCAD originally started in Estonia, a small country in Eastern Europe but we need to be where our clients, engineers, partners and investors are so we moved our headquarters here, Cambridge, USA - right in the center of the CAD ecosystem. We are building a platform that will change the way engineering work is done and Boston area is the best location for us to realize that dream.
Of course it’s not the technology that will magically change everything - our community of engineers and our customers are the ones behind the real change. Over 2300 world class engineers who have joined us show us every day that there are better ways of working together. They are sharing work that has taken them tens and hundreds of hours to complete, they are helping each other out because they care. They give us constant feedback what makes working easier and expect us to move fast giving them better tools to work together with clients and each other.
One tool we’ve been working on lately is our CAD services ordering and tracking system to help our customers to get "CAD work done". It’s gaining popularity and you can visit our finished projects pages to see that the range of work our engineers are producing is impressive. They are helping innovators to engineer their products into reality, to start new businesses and improve the sales of existing companies by creating amazing rendered pictures of their products. Other times it’s crowdsoroucing routine work like 2D to 3D conversion.
The whole team is hard at work to improve client-to-engineer and engineer-to-engineer collaboration more efficient, stay tuned for some exciting features in the coming weeks.
