Looking for a new documentary to watch? May I suggest Radford Returns, a two-hour special on Discovery+ where you can follow along as Radford Motors owner and lead designer Mark Stubbs works with car builder Ant Anstead to revamp the global, luxury automotive brand – with the help of Stratasys.
In the show, you’ll see first hand how Stratasys software and printers help the team recreate their own versions of the Lotus Type 62, a high-performing sports vehicle.
Managing 500 Parts with GrabCAD Shop
In order to recreate the sports vehicle, the team needed to 3D print over 500 parts; and if that’s not tricky enough, the team also had to work on this project globally – across five different locations.
To manage this project, the team used GrabCAD Shop, Stratasys’ 3D printing workflow software. By using GrabCAD Shop, the team was able to schedule and track their parts across a fleet of 20 different Stratasys 3D printers – all at once.
“Radford’s integration into GrabCAD Shop allowed us to work remotely at five locations all over the world,” Ant Anstead explains. “That software joined us. It connected us together.”
The GrabCAD Shop dashboard, in particular, stood out as a key tool for managing the 3D-printed car parts:
“The dashboard visibility that you get in GrabCAD Shop enables us to see all of our printers and what’s being printed and when,” explains Mark Stubbs. “That allowed us to efficiently have everything in one place.”
Keeping Up with Car Production
In addition to the software, a variety of Stratasys printers were used to create desired outcomes for each part, including the Stratasys F900®, F770™, Fortus 450mc™, F370® and J55™
“It’s an extreme example of something we see every day in the auto industry,” says Pat Carey, Senior Vice President, Strategic Growth for Stratasys. “Everyone making investments in new vehicles wants a deeper level of customization and 3D printing is helping make it possible.”
