Would you rather model your very own lightsaber (never know when the droids attack) or a Tie fighter that you’ll then 3D print and fly to the galaxy far, far away?
Star Wars saga is so deep in our pop culture brain that it would be weird if GrabCAD’s model library didn’t contain any related models. While the collection isn’t huge its got some fantastic 3D models in it. Read on…
The model above is the lovable R2D2 modeled by Ray Keane.
Propelled by Twin Ion Engines, the Tie fighters are fast, fragile starfighters, normally deployef in large numbers from bases or larger ships. This model is the Tie advanced X1 aka the Darth Vader’s Tie fighter, modeled by Chanson who claims he’s not a big star wars fan. Well, for a non-fan he sure put a lot of hours into it.
Lightsabers… I bet there are 1.2 million guys (yes, mainly guys) around the globe who wish that they were for real. Fictionally an elegant weapon used by the Jedi (and their enemy, the Sith) that required skill, confidence, dexterity and attunement to the Force to be used to the full effect. And each Jedi had to build his own lightsaber as the culmination of his or her training.
This particular lightsaber was modeled by Xander Cesari but there are more, one by Jeferson Leite Borges and Mace Windu lightsaber from Davies.
Obi Wan’s fighter from Kevin is not as detailed as the Tie fighter above so perhaps it’s just waiting for someone to pick up where Kevin left off and finish to make it look more like the real thing.
There are so many fun models yet to be added (Darth Vader’s helmet, battle doids, AT-AT walker, my personal favorite - the Naboo Royal Starship…), hope there are more Star Wars fans in our community who will add to the collection. Meanwhile, a few clips I found on Youtube starring Star Wars models done in SolidWorks.
