Nayla Miana is one of our top female GrabCAD Engineers, producing superb renders and useful CAD models of tools, machines and interior designs. She’s been a great contributor to GrabCAD, often attaching videos of how she modeled her work - she earned her latest job on the quality of her GrabCAD profile!
Nayla Miana is a 23 year-old Brazilian and a mechanical designer for musical instruments and accessories maker IBOX. “I started to use CAD in 2009 and simply fell in love with it. I was a lathe operator when I met my fiancé. He introduced me to Inventor as he was a teacher and soon I got a job in this area. I can say Im very happy with my career.’
It shows. Nayla’s profile is full of great work. Yet when I asked about her design philosophy, he spoke of no rule except following her interests. In her opinion, her best work was her own house, designed over 4 months. Although untaught as an Architect, Nayla wanted her home to reflect her desires, now one step closer to being realized via the power of CAD! In essense, “When you put your heart in something it develops easily and you can do a great job.”
Nayla discovered GrabCAD through her old job. At first, it only appeared to be "one more social networking website", but changed her mind when she saw the depth of interaction and support among users. She began to pick up advice from fellow engineers and giving back by rendering models. “All these things made me think that GrabCAD was not only a social network, but a virtual portfolio.”
Nayla’s portfolio on GrabCAD secured her a job two months ago. “I was out of the house one day when my phone rang. It was my (now current) boss and he wanted to have an interview in 30 minutes. I was not prepared for an interview and I had no time to go home. I remembered that GrabCAD was my “trump card”. So when he and his manager saw my portfolio they gave me the job on the spot!”
When I asked what the future holds for GrabCAD, Nayla was pretty positive. “GrabCAD is like a ‘rare jewel’ … the community has the power to attract people and get them to make nice and useful things everyday.” She predicts that GrabCAD will be as famous as the rest of the social networks out there, echoing Hardi Meybaum’s comment “Mechanical engineers don’t use Twitter. They use GrabCAD!” Yet its not merely about connections. Nayla commented that the next best inventors could come out of GrabCAD. With tools like our 3D viewer and our growing community of users and parts, GrabCAD is a playground for inventiveness. As Nayla's case shows, your GrabCAD portfolio matters to potential employers. Congrats Nayla!
