Well, guess who rolled into our office today? Fresh from the print-bed, Ladies and Gents, I would like to formally introduce Grabby the Bot. From now on, he will be moving between physical form in our World to come and hang out, and the immaterial world of the Internet to fix our servers and convert your files into STLs for our 3D Viewer. We have discovered that his favourite meal is several thousand kilowatts of 3 phase electricity, to power his "Super-duper powerful robot engine". Awesome.
In other news, more Challenges are up! The first, and the BIGGEST, is the Spaceclaim Challenge, sponsored by fellow Boston-based SpaceClaim, an easy-to-use modelling software. $12,000 in prizes? Holy cow! That's the biggest prize we've ever done. Seriously. It's also one of the funniest too. Take any two designs and combine them using SpaceClaim. Jet-powered Surfboard? Sure. Nuclear-powered Egg-timer? Love it. Solar-powered Laptop? I'd buy one. Silly is nice, cool is better, unique yet useful is the best. The challenge ends in one month - plenty of time to let your ideas run about your head.
We have another Challenge going right now - the Dispensing Cap Challenge. This is one of our first 'White Label' Challenges. More often than not, clients request that their names not be advertised. There was some confusion about exactly what the design specifications were. In general, this Challenge is about unique designs rather than a good working prototype straight out of CAD. As one of the jury members YD explained, "We have no specification other than making a unique and creative dispensing mechanism, if your entry is awarded we will then move on to stage two of specific development together.". The challenge ends on the 26th of October.
