Last May, a R&D consortium called the 500 Group ran a design challenge to create the perfect body for the perfect supercar. Made completely from GM high performance parts, the 500 Group wanted to encase the entire engineering with not one, but two potential types: Street and Track. And to design these types, they turned to us. Crowdsourcing design work like had never been done before - but surprise, surprise - the GrabCAD Community produced some of the best work anyone has ever seen!
Of the 192 entries submitted, Darren McKeage's entry was selected as the winner on the basis of it's "dynamic mature shape that is not too extreme, great physical balance, deep signature side vents and a great adherence to working with the supplied chassis". The whole challenge garnered a lot of attention within the community and outside it as well. But the story doesn't stop there.
We recently received some info that the 500 Group Supercar has hit Germany's most nefarious of speed-tracks, the Nurburgring. According to Paolo Tiramani, their Supercar is beating competitor's super cars from Italy and Germany 'quite easily'. The body is being put together as we speak, by 5 GrabCAD engineers selected from the design challenge. In Tiramani's words, "I don’t think this has ever been done before. This is a real world example of the power of Grabcad whereby technology-savvy companies can use the depth of talent at Grabcad to help bring product into the real world.".
So far all we have is sneak peaks like this suspension test. Soon, the body will be finished and attached. We can't wait - the suspense is killing us!
