Results of the 3D Printing Event Challenge
3D Printing is a big deal. With such a massive design envelope, one's imagination can go wild and create wonderful things. The good people at the 3D Printing Event at Eindhoven thought it would be a good idea to put together yet another Design Challenge for the GrabCAD Community. What better way to show to the World what is possible now?
The design brief was simple: "Suppose you had a 3D printer at home. Design the first consumer product you would like to 3D print and use.". A glass in the hands of an ordinary person might be just fine, but in the hand of a Designer or an Engineer, it can be improved in so many ways. Suddenly, the ordinary can become unexpected. And with a home 3D Printer, alterations are no problem.
So after looking through all 337 entries (our second largest number of entries to date), the staff at 3D Printing Event made their decisions.
First Prize - Inhaler for Children with Asthma by Luis Daniel Ibarra
From Mexico, the original intent of this design by Luis was to make an inhaler that was attractive. Even here, there is a stigma of having to use an inhaler. Congrats to Luca for winning an Leapfrog Creatr 3D Printer! Use it wisely.
Second Prize - Lucia by Andres Cacho
Unique, organic design. Would look perfect in any home. Congrats to Andres for winning a DAVID Laser Scanner. I guess you could begin by scanning a few leaves and recreating them as a new line of lampshades!
Third Prize - Bike Hook by Bob Spikman
No need to balance grocery bikes on the handle bars on the ride home! Genius! At least for Bob to start - he's earned himself a 3D print from Shapeways of his design.
Fourth Prize - Coffee Paper Cup Frame by Romano Gaspari
Everyone dreads the café or office with these cups. Give it up for Romano Gaspari for a neat solution.
Fifth Prize - iHelp u Bookend by Daniel Muñoz
Sixth Prize - Puzzle Chess by Diego
A game we hope to be playing very very soon - as soon as we get our FormOne 3D Printer in the office.
Congrats to the 4th, 5th and 6th Prize winners! You will be receiving a GrabCAD T-shirt shortly.
And of course, on behalf of the 3D Printing Event and GrabCAD, a big thanks to everyone who submitted something to the challenge. Yet again, tons of great entries and not enough prizes. More of these challenges to come along!
