Presenting the 2012 Golden Gear Award Winners
The first annual Golden Gear Awards are ready. Thank you again for being the best online CAD Community out there! Yesterday, we announced the trophy for the 2012 Golden Gear Awards. Today, we would like to present the winners who will be receiving that trophy.
How the Categories and Winners Were Chosen
Before I do, I would like to explain the categories and how the winners were chosen. A model is not eligible for a Golden Gear if it was created “over a year ago” in your file folder, had already won a Challenge prize, or if you had won a Golden Gear in another category. Why? We want to show our appreciation for as much of the Community content as possible. How did we decide the categories? We wanted some winners chosen based on the Community response throughout the year: most likeable, most buzzworthy, and most downloaded. You all helped to pick these models each time you downloaded, liked, or left a comment. These are really the best way to show someone you like their work.
We also wanted to highlight some of our favorites across many different categories of models so we included winners in manufacturing and construction, transportation, home and interiors, and toys, crafts and everything fun. We also realize all the hard work you all put into Tutorials and collaborative projects so we included categories for model and renderings tutorials along with an open engineering category. Each category will have one winner, listed first, and then one honorable mention. The whole GrabCAD Team helped choose the winners. Now, let’s present our winners (drum roll)!

The Golden Gears Next Year
Please leave comments with categories you would like to see next year and let me know if you would be interested in a nomination process for the next Golden Gears. Look out for the new badge that will highlight the winners. I will also post these results on the Golden Gear Trophy Challenge page. I would love to include more members next year since so many of you deserve special attention for the fun, complex, beautiful, and educational models you upload every day! Every time a winner was picked, I thought of 10 more people I would like to recognize. I bet that next year that number will be more like 100! I am looking forward to a great year ahead of us.
Best,
Sara

Congraaaate, !!
Congrats to the winners!!! Awesome model and renders :)
Dear Sara, Dear GrabCAD Team !
Thank you soooo much!
Bit dissatisfied with the cathegories that is used. Should be more Person oriented, not models, Seing as a person might have the most likes overall but not the most likes on 1 model. Same goes for other cathegories.
Now its more like a model has won a price, not a person.
But thats just my opinion.
Congratz to everyone that won http://grabcad.com/tommy.mueller-1 trophie, he himself got two of them. :)
I’d like to have the Community more involved next year and perhaps members could be nominated for an award. What do you think?
Congratulation to all the winners ;)
I think that would be a great Idea, Sara to have the community vote for all different subjects and then maybe the top 10 of the them peps the GrabCAD Staff could then go and pick the winner that way it would be the community and also the GrabCAD Staff that would pick the winners :)
Tobias has made a very good point, in saying it was a model that was picked and not a person……
In saying that Great job for all that got picked as it was GrabCAD’s rules and big Congrat’z to all that won…… Models well deserved for more recognition…..
:P
Congrats to the winners!!!
Thanks for the mention!! ;)
Thank you GrabCAD for this great honor :D it makes me very happy :)))
That sounds like a good idea Sara, its great to know that grabcad listen to the userbase.
Thanks to the GrabCAD Team!
Thank you very much!
Thanks a bunch! I can’t wait to see what we have next year. I have enough honorable mentions and helper awards. I want to win something and get those badges!!!
I do like Tobias Mattsson’s idea of making the award more focused on the engineer vs. a specific model. Still not entirely sure how to that… Great job everyone and thanks GrabCAD.
Thx Guys
i really dont make and collect those tutorials for awards or anything else ive done it just for those who need more help in rendering especially with KeyShot.
