We are testing your speed, branding, and ingenuity with our most recent group of design Challenges. Lomography needs accessories for their DIY SLR camera while URBEE 2 needs an insignia. The next GrabCAD Challenge launches new speedruns in the Library.
GrabCAD Speedrun Launch Design Challenge
Have you heard of speedruns in video games? A fellow GrabCADr, Alexander Papadopoulos, came up with the idea to bring this engaging and skill building competition idea to CAD. Create complex models that can be made through different techniques and challenge the Community to make it faster.
How do we apply this to CAD? We are open to ideas, so share your thoughts in the comments. This Challenge is our way to come up with the setup and then we get to business. The idea is to have a complete CAD model as the end goal. GrabCADrs compete indefinitely over time for the fastest build. This will require enormous creativity and sharing of CAD hacks to continue to beat the best time. In the end, together we can produce lots of tips and feedback for the Community and really show the top capabilities of the CAD software used. Let's change the way engineers learn, by making it fun and collaborative.
Lomography Camera Accessory Challenge
Lomography is the world's largest community of analogue photographers. Its 600,000 members are challenging you to create accessories for their Konstruktor series analogue camera. This Challenge will have 3 separate categories:
- Lens accessory: cap, filter mount, or a pinhole cap
- Grip: keep the Konstruktor steady for tough shots
- Holder: shoot 2 Konstruktors at once for 3D photos
It is important to consider the branding of the Konstruktor and Lomography. Lomographic products are all characterized by the following traits: they are practical and sensual, they look good, they’re friendly, inexpensive, sexy, un-political, a tad intellectual (but not too high-brow) and distributed worldwide. Their sole purpose is to do nothing other than serve the daily, thousandfold desires of Lomographic creative expression!
URBEE 2 Insignia Design Challenge
Design the insignia for the world's greenest car, URBEE 2! URBEE2 is a modern, sustainable vehicle that will revolutionize the way that we commute. The exterior’s lightweight construction of ABS plastic allows for a minimum amount of drag and fuel required to operate the car, and it’s stronger and more easily manipulated than steel. Able to hold two passengers, the URBEE2 could very well be the next big thing in urban transportation. The engine and the chassis will still be made from metal, and the max 10 horsepower engine is still in development. Most of the city driving (up to 40 mph) will be powered by a 36-volt electric motor, and higher speeds will be achieved by a diesel engine that can potentially be run on ethanol.
URBEE2 needs a branded insignia for their:
- Steering wheels
- Key fobs
- Hood emblems
- Side fenders and on the rear of the car
- Many promotional items like clothing, hats, pens, etc.
