You like CAD models?
We've got CAD models.
It's a special dose of 3D model bliss this week as we double up and give you 20 interesting models from the last couple weeks. With nearly 50,000 engineers on GrabCAD there are more interesting models than ever. What are your favorite?
Ferrari Enzo / Ivo
This Ferrari Enzo (IGES) by Evo is modeled and rendered in SolidWorks. This is also Ivo's first models on GrabCAD, who is a mechanical engineer proficient in Creo Parametric, SolidWorks and CATIA.
Watch Movement / Greg Brown
A look at Watch Movement (STEP) by Greg Brown. While it's not a highly dimensionally accurate model, it serves as a good example, starting point and can be used for some great animations.
Spyder / Matt Lyle
A sweet, little spherical Spyder (SolidWorks) idea by Matt Lyle.
Wood Clock / Mezo Sandor
Mezo Sandor already has a couple of these wood clocks (Inventor/ STEP) on GrabCAD and it's a great addition to the the watch above by Greg and several other clock models.
Lego with Equations / Nathan Demski
A great model of a Lego piece (SolidWorks) by Nathan Demski using built in equations to update as the dimensions are changed.
Seatbelt Harness / Graham Baldwin
This Seatbelt harness (STEP) by Graham Baldwin is a full seat harness used in Aircraft. Graham modeled this in SpaceClaim with rendering above done in KeyShot.
Concrete Mixer / Faith Kaya
This Concrete Mixer (SolidWorks) is a first model upload by new user Faith Kaya. There are two great examples of mixers which are used at Concrete batching facilities.
Spiral Staircase / Binhboong
A very interesting idea for a Spiral Staircase (CATIA/3DXML) from Binhboong. Very cool how it combines a lattice structure with the central column.
Lego Helicopter / Schrotter
Can you have too many Lego models? I think not! This Lego Helicopter (STEP/IGES) by Schrotter is a classic and contains a lot of the parts used in other Lego builds.
Super Car Concept / Greg
A really intense super car concept (SolidWorks/IGES) by Greg. Greg started it off using Inventor and finished in SolidWorks.
Throttle / Adrain
A great example of a Throttle (SolidWorks/STEP) used for automotive applications from Adrain.
Hand Turning Device / Toghe Boby
This Hand Turning Device (STEP) by Toghe Boby is a small device used on a lathe CNC to turn down a spherical surface. Toghe was nice enough to provide a rendered animation to show how it works. Thanks Toghe!
Organic Tube Frame / James Robbins
Organic Tube Frame (IGES) created by James Robbins was a test project where James "created a base polygonal model and used subdivision to create the organic forms then converted to NURBS data."
Dice / A. Papadopoulos
Dice are nothing unusual, but these Dice (Creo Elements/Pro, STEP, STL) by A. Papadopoulos. Altogether you have eight die ranging across D3, D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20, D100.
Backyard Work Shed / Mark Morehead
This is an interesting Backyard Work Shed (SolidWorks) by Mark Morehead. It was built off of plans found online and uses a texture from cgtextures.com.
Welding Island / Andrei D
This Welding Island (STEP) is an automization of another GrabCAD user's model and was used in the video footage for Andrei's Master thesis.
Wheel Loader / W. Wolf
A very cool Wheel Loader (SolidWorks/STEP) from W. Wolf. This loader was modeled after the Kobelco LK 300A wheel loader with a scale of 1/30 of the actual machine
Tron Legacy Jet / Erik Hill
Erik Hill has been creating some wonderful models of Tron Legacy vehicles. This Tron Legacy Jet (STEP) is one of three and more hopefully more to come.
Ducati Control Shaft / Dietmar Amann
This very intricate model of a Ducati Control Shaft (IronCAD/STEP) by Dietmar Amann is a remake of one from the amazing Ducati race bike.
Golf Ball Canon / Bob Clark
Who couldn't use a nice Golf Ball Canon? This one modeled by a <href="http://grabcad.com/bob.clark" target="_blank">Bob Clark is actually a scaled down version of a Civil War Rampart Mortar.
Wow, 20 models! And, so many more out there in the GrabCAD library. Be sure and comment or upload a rendering of your favorite and remember, it's always nice to include a generic format like STEP or IGES, so more people can have a look. Did we miss any good ones? Let us know what models you thought were the most interesting in the comments. Until next time!
