GrabCAD challenge enables industrial furniture designer Sovella to quickly attract 101 submissions from our brilliant engineers! Below we showcase the winning designs which earned the engineers almost $4,000
Sovella has been designing and manufacturing configurable and modular industrial furniture since 1876. They needed a table-height adjustment mechanism with a 400mm range and a maximum weight capacity of 500kg, and they needed it quick. Sovella posted a challenge on GrabCAD and our amazing community of engineers nailed the project! Sovella representative Erkki Kiviniemi was impressed with the vast number of entries and with the new ideas and concepts generated. Without further ado, here are the winners (with Erkki's comments):
First Prize (2000 USD): Sovella Concept #1 by GrabCAD engineer Chris Duncan
According to Sovella: "Our existing structure is easy to modify according to this idea. Idea to improve crank adjustability and the “storage” position of the crank is good. Duncan has sent many other proposals and he has made also good calculations from needed using power."
Second Prize (1000 USD): Sovella Concept #2 by GrabCAD engineer Tomek F
"Solution is simple and the compact mechanism is easy to put in small space. Also crank position on table top is good idea."
Third Prize (500 USD): Sovella Concept #3 by GrabCAD engineer Franky Devaere
"Many proposals included some kind hydraulic. In many of our customer segments it is not possible to use hydraulic. Anyway, hydraulic is usable in some customer groups. So, we chose this proposal to represent this category. In this proposal hydraulic is added to the energy storage; accumulator."
Forth Prize (500 USD): Sovella Concept #4 by GrabCAD engineer Flaviano Crespi
"Technical implementation of this proposal is high quality and details have been thought through. Modeling quality is also in high level. This solution can be used in high end products."
Fifth Place (GrabCAD t-shirt): Sovella Concept #5 by GrabCAD engineer Johannes Alderse Baas
"This idea is unique. Of course there would be many technical details to solve, but the face of audience would be amazed, when this table is used."
Sixth Place (GrabCAD t-shirt): Sovella Concept #6 by GrabCAD engineer Voibor
"This unique and open-minded proposal; design is also quite unusual."
Seventh Place (GrabCAD t-shirt): Sovella Concept #7 by GrabCAD engineer Andre Rätsep
"Simple idea to change needed moment; just change the crank onto other shaft."
Eighth Place (GrabCAD t-shirt): Sovella Concept #8 by GrabCAD engineer Camel
"Good idea to add lifting and tilting feature in the same structure."
Ninth Place (GrabCAD t-shirt): Sovella Concept #9 by GrabCAD engineer Yerraaditya
"We liked the design details of this solution."
Tenth Place (GrabCAD t-shirt): Sovella Concept #10 by GrabCAD engineer Bkinvent
"Sometimes simple is beautiful; put the table in balance just adding counterweights. Of course some details would have to solve; for example transportation of the table."
Good work GrabCAD Engineers! Sovella was impressed with our community's response to their challenge. We're proud of you!
Cheers,
Gabe
