When we announced the rendering competition back in December then we already knew that we were going to get some really-really good entries. But we didn't expect the task of sorting out the top 3 to be that tough. The number and quality of the submissions was super high.
Here are the three winners and the prizes our partner KeyShot provided:
1st place - Benjamin Garson and his model (shot above) of a drill earned him KeyShot Pro 2 software. Congratulations!
2nd place - Chanson's custom naked motorcycle and KeyShot 2 plus 1 year subscritption as a prize.
3rd place - Gee's transmission bridge gets KeyShot 2 for the effort.
Also, check out the work that caught our attention but didn't make it to the top 3: Runners-up in the rendering competition
All members of the jury picked Benjamin's drill as one of their favorite model. It's a great model with equally amazing photorealistic screenshot. Use it on a website or magazine ad and people would buy the product, we're sure of that. Bonus points for using Camilo Parra Palacio's engine as one part of his model. Great use of GrabCAD.
We'll be contacting the winners shortly to hand over the prizes and I'm getting a feeling that Benjamin Garson and his work will be featured in a longer interview shortly.
One again, it was really tough to select the winners as so many of our members had uploaded models that showed talent, dedication and a keen eye to rendering shots that look great and life-like. I could show some of the runners-up in a separate blog post later if there's interest.
Amazing screenshots of CAD models is a trend that will only get bigger as it helps to "sell" the idea or prototype or finished product. People in general are visual creatures and well lit photo that shows the model from a good angle is a no brainer when pitching your work, building a portfolio or pleasing a client.
That's why GrabCAD is offering rendering service for photorealistic images to those who don't have the time, skills or the right tools to get the perfect results themselves. We'll use our talented pool of engineers (perfectly demonstrated by the winning entries) to get the job done.
A big "Thank You!" to all who participated and to KeyShot who provided the prizes. We'll have more competitions in the future, keep reading our blog or follow us on Twitter or Facebook, we'll announce new ones via these channels.
