Leaving the plants, bushes, trees and inflatable swimming pools aside, there are some edgy things you can do to a typical 4-bedroom family house garden that not only leave any mother-in-law speechless, but earn a few coolness points from even the most anti-gardening friends around.
The first thing you can do is to dig a hole to the other side of the world.
This extra-terrestial installation was actually created by a German landscape architecture company Topotek1 for the 2011 Xi'an International Horticultural Exposition. But the actual drawings of the masterpiece show that building your own miniature version should not be overly complicated?
Then you can always install your own water wheel, just for the heck of it :)
Or create a fountain of old things that you don't really use in the household any more, car, for example.
If you have a good relationship with the neighbours and live in a windy place, then the following Singing Tree installation is probably not the best idea to assemble in the back yard. But by all means, if you all love sound, it's inspirational and might attract tons of visitors as a bonus.
Oh, and give us a shout if there are many gardening experts out there who have not uploaded their CAD models of Japanese ponds or French fountains simply because we lack the appropriate software in our list. Looks like there is Gardencad for all the greenery enthusiasts.
