Although there’s a fair amount of debate about the future of engineering drawings, the present is quite clear – engineering drawings are important communication tools. That’s why we’re happy to announce that GrabCAD Workbench now supports viewing PTC Creo drawings right in the web browser.
2D Still Matters
Most manufacturing organizations still rely on traditional 2D prints to ensure that the shop can build products accurately. Unfortunately drawings are proprietary to the CAD system – if you want someone who doesn’t have CAD to see your drawing you need to export a PDF. This is, of course, a time consuming extra step for already busy engineers. It also creates the risk that your manufacturer is using an out-of-date PDF.
Keep Manufacturers Up To Date Without The Hassle
GrabCAD Workbench already makes it easy to share 3D models with non-engineers and now we’ve added the capability for non-CAD users to see the 2D prints as well, right in their web browser with no additional software. They can also download the files as PDFs, as well as make comments. This ensures that your partners always see the latest drawing, which means fewer slightly-out-of-date prototypes.
This new feature is a result of our partnership with PTC, which we announced a few months ago as part of our summer release.
Ongoing Commitment to a Multi-CAD World
This addition represents the latest step in our commitment to a multi-CAD world. We realize that your organization probably deals with multiple CAD formats, so we’re always looking for ways to make it easy to communicate across CAD platforms. Please let us know about other examples where differing CAD systems have presented a barrier, and we’ll see what we can do!
