Wow, another week has flown by and with it we have a whole slew of wonderful models from the GrabCAD community. There have been a lot of cool ideas for the Saare Yacht competition (that ends in two days!) But today we look at some other models you've been busy creating.
We'll start off this series with a blast. This fancy Cannon model (IronCAD/STEP) just makes you want to line a few up, load some powder and shoot yourself into the weekend, am I right? Emil Rindell created this fine example of ancient warfare as inspiration from a Kremlin Tsar Cannon and modeled it all in under 4 hours.
ANother Wall-E model? Darn right. This version of our beloved, earth-cleaning friend Wall-E (SolidWorks 2010) is from user Pranav Panchal and is a full assembly, separated into 46 parts for you to have fun animating and rendering. Go ahead, hit the download, give it a go and throw up some renderings!
Watches. Who doesn't love them? Mobile phones may be making them obsolete, but there's still an elegance to a fine watch. Much like this Seiko watch (KeyShot) from Robert Voogt. Now, this is a KeyShot file to download with all the environments and materials set up for you to view and play with. Watch the time though. :)
More robots I say. This little Swivel head robot (Inventor 2012/STEP) is just too cute to pass up. William Barclay create parts of this model from other parts he had modeled over the years. Spark plugs for the eyes, connecting rods for his legs and presto! and new robot model for you to render.
Vroom! Oh yeah! This Tamiya RC Car model (SolidWorks 2011) is a great example of how the GrabCAD Community works together to add to and improve models. JE Paz started with a model begun by Jiri Ucik. He added a lot more detail and used a car body from another user to complete it all.
If you love radials, here's another wonderful example. This Forrest Edwards Radial Engine (Pro/E Wildfire 4/STEP) created by Allan Howard contains the original drawing used to create the model.
Have you ever seen a flip-top cap closer? Well, now is your chance. This cap closer mechanism (Inventor 2012/STEP) is the basic structure of such a thing, created by CAD-MECA who also has a lot of great models of various other machines and mechanisms.
David Thomas is at it again creating the aircraft model you all know and love. He doesn't give himself enough credit for this great example of an F-15 fighter jet (SolidWorks 2011). Don't worry David, we love the models and definitely think you should keep them coming!
Chairs. Yeah, if you upload a cool chair design, you'll most likely get a 'Like' from me and could definitely see it up here. This hot orange armchair (STEP) is a design from Onur. Check it out and give Onur a big thumbs up!
It's always nice to see how someone has worked through the function of a mechanism. This arbor press (SolidWorks 2011/STEP) from Ray Keane is a great introduction to simple gear mates in SolidWorks and has some great colors that always seem to be missing from such things as arbor presses. Great job Ray!
There are truly more great 3D model examples than we can feature here. So be sure to check out the library regularly and share your thoughts with the person who created the modeleAnd remember, it's always nice to upload a format such as STEP or IGES for those that may not have your CAD package and would like to create renderings
