2011 will see GrabCAD more focused on developing and promoting its engineering services. With the first 4 months we had well over 1000 engineers signing up with us who are ready to take on CAD projects from drafting to 3D modeling to rendering photorealistic images. Last year we started testing our online order form and have a handful of orders submitted to date. The volume of orders is still low but steady and growing. Thanks to the members of GrabCAD we've delivered high quality work on time. Here are just two examples of the projects we've done recently. Carlos M....

2010 was the best year for GrabCAD. I started the company late 2009 together with Indrek and created a simple website where clients could easily order CAD services and get the results in 24 hours. After the initial launch we worked like crazy to satisfy the first customers with projects ranging from houses to wind turbines. After a few weeks of sleepless nights we decided that we needed a lot of additional engineers to help us fulfill all the orders. Building an effective CAD services marketplace - a solution that cuts down product development time and brings together service buyers and...

Gentlemen, and Ladies. The almost impossible has come true. The great news this time is that we have our first female engineer answering our monthly questions and giving a slightly different insight to the mostly guys dominated industry. How many women do you have as engineering workmates or college students? Emma McGuinness is one of the rare and few so read on. GC: What is your engineering background? How, of all subjects, did you decide to study it and why do you want to develop a career in CAD? Emma: I was always interested in art and design from a young...

The winners of GrabCAD's first ever 3D printing Challenge are chosen. We looked through almost half a thousand drawings, were torn between very technical looking models and some original artwork, considered some hobby projects, yet could not overlook all the professional drawings uploaded in the Library. We read your comments, too and came to the following decision this time. The first drawing we are going to test-print is Scott Bruins' Mechanum Wheel. You all loved it. It looks completely cool, has a very original shape that could be a nice challenge for the different printers and we simply cannot wait...

The next GrabCAD engineer in the spotlight is Chanson Yang, another young talent from the US with a background in product and materials engineering. Many of you have noticed this guy - he is the one uploading the engine parts and was happy to answer GrabCAD's questions this time. GC: Tell us about your engineering background? What did you study and what was your major? Chanson: I obtained my degree in Biomedical Engineering, which confuses a lot of people. Basically I'm an Industrial Designer with less art and more mechanics, or yet another way to say it is I am...

When choosing the first ever engineer to interview for our first ever Engineer Spotlight feature, we simply had to take a look at GrabCAD most popular drawings and the decision came easy. Scott Bruins, a young engineer and a graduate of Northwest Technical Institute has been sharing some great work, his Portal Turret and Brain Gear have been such hits that we decided to hear more about the young talent. GC: What was your first job as an engineer? Scott: I've been in the industry for 4 years. I started my first job as an intern at Toro as a...
