“I know one thing, that I know nothing,”
SocratesLet’s say you find yourself traveling in a strange and foreign land, to exotic locales across distant alien shores you’ve never seen before, finding yourself in a corner of the world where you’re not quite sure where to go or what to expect or even what might happen next.
Would you find the prospect of such an adventure cool or frightening?
How would you react? What would you do? Would you hike that mountain if you couldn’t see its summit?
Let’s face it, the unknown can be unnerving and more than a little scary. And maybe the above example is a little fansical, but if you were traveling in Kashmir or Kathmandu or even Philadelphia and you’d never been before, you might ask a local for directions about where to go or what to do or even the best place to grab a Philly Cheesesteak.
There’s nothing wrong or scary about putting yourself out there to learn something new from someone who might know something that you don’t know; it’s called learning and being open to accepting new ideas.
The point is, nobody really knows everything and “everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’t,” as Bill Nye once said, and the more you open your eyes and explore new things and places and people, the more opportunities you will have to learn and grow and better yourself as a person.
This is as true for the curious traveler as it is for the engineer or an astronaut, or even the local car mechanic down the block.
Everyone wants to work with the best and people they trust and can depend on to provide deliverables and get the task accomplished.
Over the years, the GrabCAD Community has grown into the largest online community for professional engineers, designers, manufacturers and students looking to learn and share those valuable skills. We currently stand at almost 5 million members with a vast area of knowledge and expertise spanning multiple industries and software tools.
There’s a lot of things to see and do on GrabCAD. We get it. That’s why we wanted to make it easier than ever before for like-minded professionals to connect and bring together the best minds on the planet on any engineering related topic.
Which is precisely the idea behind GrabCAD Groups, an upcoming new product launch that enhances the GrabCAD Community of almost 5 million professional designers, engineers, manufacturers and students.
GrabCAD Groups will provide Community members with an opportunity to learn, collaborate, and communicate with experts, thought leaders, and their peers related to specific areas of interest in topic-driven forums.
Diversity drives conversation, and GrabCAD Groups is a new opportunity to start and participate in discussions with an engineer who might know more than you do half the world away, show off your latest CAD model and receive valuable feedback from your peers, or maybe just connect over a favorite design project or commissarate over areas of shared frustrations.
There’s never only and ever one “right” way to do anything, and everyone you will ever meet really does know something you don’t, which is why we’re creating GrabCAD Groups to better empower the members of our Community and help them grow into smarter, more efficient engineers, designers and manufacturers (all you students are more than welcome too!).
GrabCAD Groups will launch June 4 – be prepared to open your eyes to a whole new world of shared possibilities!
